Alchemy extended parameters in Logic Pro for iPad

Alchemy provides additional parameters that set the overall output quality and change the way Alchemy responds to incoming MIDI note information.

Extended parameters

The extended parameters are located on the far right of the lower control section.

  • High Quality button: When active, Alchemy allocates more processing power to render the audio signal with better sound quality. This setting remains active when loading other presets or when recalling the project.

  • Polyphony pop-up menu: Select an option to determine the polyphonic playing style.

    • 2 … 16: Sets the number of playback voices, up to the maximum possible polyphony value.

    • Legato: If you choose Legato, and play in a legato style (strike a new key while holding another), the envelope generators are triggered only for the first note you play legato, and continue their curve until you release the last legato played key. If you release each key before pressing a new one, the envelope isn’t triggered by the new note. Legato restricts polyphony to one voice.

    • Mono: If you choose Mono, the envelope generators are retriggered every time you play a new note, even in a legato style. Mono restricts polyphony to one voice.

    • Customized: The Customized option is a dimmed read-only value that is selected when an imported Logic Pro for Mac project contains the Alchemy plug-in, which has different polyphony values for individual sources (A/B/C/D).

  • Key Trigger pop-up menu: Sets the key trigger behavior for the arpeggiator, which is active if the arpeggiator mode in the loaded preset is in any state other than off, or if it is modulated. This applies to all arpeggiators.

    • On: Pressing a key retriggers the arpeggiator immediately.

    • Snap to Rate: Pressing a key retriggers the arpeggiator, quantizing the keystroke to its internal rate.

    • Snap to note value: Pressing a key retriggers the arpeggiator, quantizing the key stroke to the selected musical note division.

    • Off: The arpeggiator runs freely and pressing a key doesn't retrigger it.

    • Customized: Choose to recall the original key trigger states of the preset.

  • Tap the More button to open a menu with two Mono Mode parameters:

    • MIDI Mono Mode pop-up menu: Choose Off, On (Base Channel 1), or On (Base Channel 16).

      In either mode, each voice receives on a different MIDI channel. Per voice channels support pitchbend, aftertouch, mod wheel, and Performance control assignment messages. Controllers and MIDI messages sent on the base channel affect all voices.

    • Mono Mode Bend Range: Tap to open a window and set a value from 0 to 96.

      The chosen pitch bend range affects individual note pitchbend messages received on all but the assigned Base Channel. The default is 48 semitones, which is compatible with the GarageBand for iOS keyboard in pitch mode. When using a MIDI guitar, 24 semitones is the preferable setting because most guitar to MIDI converters use this range by default.
