Open, change, or reset Motion settings

Motion Settings let you customize your workspace, tailor the interface for different types of projects, and define the presets for new projects and exported finished movies. You can also reset Motion settings, or copy settings to another computer.

Open Motion Settings

  1. In Motion, choose Motion > Settings (or press Command-Comma).

  2. Click a button at the top of the window to open a settings pane:

Reset Motion settings

  1. Press and hold the Option and Command keys while opening the Motion app.

  2. In the dialog that appears, click Delete.

Motion opens, and settings are reset to the defaults.

Copy Motion settings between computers

You can copy Motion settings to another Mac that has Motion installed so that the settings are the same on both computers.

  1. In the macOS Finder, press and hold the Option key, then choose Go > Library.

  2. Locate the settings file (named “com.apple.motionapp.plist”) in the following location:

    /Containers/Motion/Data/Library/Preferences/com.apple.motionapp.plist

  3. Copy the settings file to the same location on the other Mac.

If necessary, overwrite any existing version of the file at that location.

See Move Motion assets to another computer.

Motion shares analytics information with Apple if your system settings allow it. To view or change these settings, see Share analytics information from your Mac with Apple in the Mac User Guide.
