DEVSQ

The DEVSQ function returns the sum of the squares of deviations of a set of numbers from their average (arithmetic mean).

DEVSQ(num-value, num-value…)

num-value: A number value.

num-value…: Optionally include one or more additional number values.

Notes

  • DEVSQ divides the sum of the numbers by the number of numbers to get the average (arithmetic mean). The difference (absolute value) between the average and each number is squared and summed and the total is returned.

Example

=DEVSQ(1, 7, 19, 8, 3, 9) returns 196.833333333333.
