Turn on Live Captions in FaceTime on Mac

While you’re on a video call, you can turn on Live Captions to have conversations transcribed on the screen. All audio is processed on your Mac.

Note: Live Captions is only available on Mac computers with Apple silicon, and is not available in all languages, countries or regions. The accuracy of Live Captions may vary and should not be relied upon in high-risk or emergency situations. Live Captions uses additional power.

Open FaceTime for me

  1. During a FaceTime audio call, click the More button.

If you don’t see the More button, move the pointer over the FaceTime window.

  2. Click Live Captions.

If Apple Intelligence* is turned on, you can also use Live Translation to see the other participant’s words translated into your language. See Translate messages and calls.

*Apple Intelligence is available in beta with support for the following languages: English, Danish, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese. Some features may not be available in all languages or regions. For more information on language and feature availability and system requirements, see the Apple Support article How to get Apple Intelligence.
