Change VoiceOver Braille settings (Translation tab) in VoiceOver Utility on Mac
Use the Translation tab of the Braille category in VoiceOver Utility to customize translation settings for a braille display connected to your Mac.
To open VoiceOver Utility, press Command-F5 to turn VoiceOver on, then press VO-Fn-F8.
To navigate the different tabs in Braille, press the Left Arrow or Right Arrow key after you hear “Braille” until you hear the setting you want to edit—like Translation.
Note: VO represents the VoiceOver modifier that you press with additional keys to enter VoiceOver commands. By default, you can press Control and Option together or just press Caps Lock.
Option | Description |

Output | Choose the braille table you want to use to read braille output. You can read using six or eight dot braille and contracted or uncontracted braille, with support for many international braille tables. |
Input | Choose the braille table you want to use to type braille input. You can type using six or eight dot braille and contracted or uncontracted braille, with support for many international braille tables. |
Match Input and Output Tables | Set the braille display to use the same table for both the braille input you type and the braille output you read. |
Translate after | Choose when you want VoiceOver to automatically translate the characters you type:

Equations use Nemeth Code | Use Nemeth Code braille for mathematical equations. |
Braille Translation | Tables listed in the Braille Table rotor (or the Input Braille Table and Output Braille Table rotors). To add a braille translation table, click To remove a table, select the table in the list, then click To quickly switch tables while you’re working, press VO-Command-Shift-Right Arrow or Left Arrow until you hear Braille Table, Input Braille Table, or Output Braille Table. |
