Use VoiceOver to arrange and edit regions in Logic Pro for iPad

You can use VoiceOver gestures to select, arrange, and edit regions in Logic Pro for iPad.

Select a region

  • Navigate to the region you want to select, then double-tap.

Create regions at the playhead position on a software instrument track

  1. Navigate to the track icon of the software instrument track where you want to add a region.

  2. Turn the VoiceOver rotor to Actions, swipe up or down until you hear “Create MIDI Region at Playhead,” “Create Pattern Region at Playhead,” or “Create Session Player Region at Playhead.”

  3. Double-tap when you hear the option for the kind of region you want to create.

Trim a region

  1. In the Tracks area menu bar, navigate to the Trim button, then double-tap to activate it.

    If you’re using the grouped navigation style, the Trim button is located in the Function Buttons group in the Tracks area menu bar.

  2. In the Tracks area, navigate to the region you want to trim, then double-tap to select it.

  3. Swipe right until you hear “Left Resize Handle” or “Right Resize Handle” to select the left or right resize handle.

  4. To move the selected resize handle, do one of the following:

    • Swipe up or down.

    • Double-tap and hold until you hear three rising tones, then drag left or right.

Loop a region

  1. In the Tracks area menu bar, navigate to the Loop button, then double-tap to activate it.

    If you’re using the grouped navigation style, the Loop button is located in the Function Buttons group in the Tracks area menu bar.

  2. In the Tracks area, navigate to the region you want to loop, then double-tap to select it.

  3. Swipe right until you hear “Loop End Resize Handle.”

  4. To move the Loop End resize handle, do one of the following:

    • Swipe up or down.

    • Double-tap and hold until you hear three rising tones, then drag left or right.

Split a region

  1. In the Tracks area menu bar, navigate to the Split button, then double-tap to activate it.

    If you’re using the grouped navigation style, the Split button is located in the Function Buttons group in the Tracks area menu bar.

  2. In the Tracks area, navigate to the region you want to split, then double-tap to select it.

    The VoiceOver cursor moves to the Split marker that appears in the region.

  3. To move the Split marker to where you want to split the region, do one of the following:

    • Swipe up or down.

    • Double-tap and hold until you hear three rising tones, then drag left or right.

  4. Double-tap to split the region at the Split marker.

    After you split a region, the VoiceOver cursor remains on the Split marker. If you want to make additional splits, move the Split marker to a new location and repeat step 3.

Stretch a region

  1. In the Tracks area menu bar, navigate to the Stretch button, then double-tap to activate it.

    If you’re using the grouped navigation style, the Stretch button is located in the Function Buttons group in the Tracks area menu bar.

  2. In the Tracks area, navigate to the region you want to stretch, then double-tap to select it.

  3. Swipe right until you hear “Left Resize Handle” or “Right Resize Handle” to select the left or right resize handle.

  4. To move the selected stretch handle, do one of the following:

    • Swipe up or down.

    • Double-tap and hold until you hear three rising tones, then drag left or right.

Move a region

  1. Navigate to the region you want to move, then double-tap to select it.

  2. Swipe right until you hear “Move Region Handle.”

  3. To move the region, do one of the following:

    • Swipe up or down.

    • Double-tap and hold until you hear three rising tones, then drag left or right.

Access additional region functions and settings

You can access additional editing functions and region settings using a using a shortcut menu (also called a context menu).

  1. Navigate to the region you want to edit, then double-tap to select it.

  2. Double-tap again to open the menu.

  3. Swipe left or right to scroll through the menu items.

  4. Double-tap to choose an item or open a submenu.

  5. To close the menu without choosing an item, do one of the following:

    • Move a finger back and forth three times quickly, making a “z,” then double-tap after you hear “Dismiss Context Menu.”

    • Navigate past the last item in the menu until you hear “Dismiss Context Menu,” then double-tap.

    • Tap anywhere outside the menu, then double-tap after you hear “Dismiss Context Menu.”
