Work with SVG files in Motion

Change the background color of an SVG object

Areas of transparency in an SVG file are also transparent in Motion. After you import an SVG file into Motion, you can substitute a custom background color for transparent portions of the SVG.

  1. In the Project pane in Motion, click Media, then select an SVG object.

  2. Open the Media Inspector, select the Use Background Color checkbox, then select a new color using the Background Color controls.

SVG file limitations

When you work with SVG files, consider the following limitations:

  • Animated SVG files aren’t supported in Motion. When you import an animated SVG, only the first frame of the SVG file is displayed.

Note: If you import an SVG file with an animated fade-in (and the first frame is transparent), the SVG will appear empty.

  • SVG files containing custom fonts can’t be imported into Motion.

  • JavaScript objects or embedded links present in an imported SVG file do not appear in Motion.

  • SVG files containing embedded references to external images aren’t supported in Motion. When you import an SVG with an embedded reference to an external image, a placeholder graphic is displayed.

  • SVG files containing shapes with varying opacity may not appear as expected in Motion. For example, if you import an SVG file with a shape created at 50% opacity, the shape may appear brighter in Motion.
