Change settings in Final Cut Pro for Mac

A setting modifies how a particular Final Cut Pro feature behaves. Most settings can be turned on or off at any time. The following topics describe Final Cut Pro settings in detail.

Open Final Cut Pro settings

  • Choose Final Cut Pro > Settings (or press Command-Comma), then click a button at the top of the window to open a settings pane.

Note: On systems with macOS Monterey or earlier, “Settings” appears as “Preferences” in the Final Cut Pro menu.

Copy Final Cut Pro settings between computers

You can copy Final Cut Pro settings to another Mac that has Final Cut Pro installed so that the settings are the same on both computers.

  1. Find the Final Cut Pro settings file in the following location:

    /Users/username/Library/Preferences/com.apple.FinalCut.plist

  2. Copy the settings file to the same location on the other Mac.

    If necessary, overwrite any existing version of the file at that location.

Reset Final Cut Pro settings

You can reset Final Cut Pro settings to their original values.

  • Press Option-Command while opening Final Cut Pro.

    Final Cut Pro resets the settings and adds a file named VideoAppDiagnostics-FinalCut to the desktop, containing a record of your previous settings.
