Customize the Tools sidebar on Mac

The Tools sidebar on the right side of the Pixelmator Pro window contains tools for painting, drawing, graphic design, and photo editing. The default toolset is arranged by function in a vertical strip on the far right: There are groups of tools for making selections, for painting and erasing, for retouching, and more.

You can add, remove, group, or arrange tools in the Tools sidebar for specific workflows. For instance, if you’re mainly using Pixelmator Pro for illustration, you can remove retouching, selection, repair, and any other tools that you don’t typically use when working with vector shapes.

  1. In Pixelmator Pro on Mac, click the More button at the bottom of the Tools sidebar, then choose Customize Tools.

  2. Do any of the following in the window that opens:

    • Rearrange the order of tools: Drag a tool or a group of tools to a new position in the top row.

    • Group tools: Drag a tool from the lower section of the window to the top row, then release.

    • Remove a tool from a tool group: Click a tool group with a More badge the More button in the top row, then position the pointer over a tool name and click the Remove button

    • Add a tool to the Tools sidebar: Drag a tool from the lower section of the window to the top row.

    • Remove a tool from the Tools sidebar: Drag a tool out of the top row.

  3. To discard all your current changes, click Reset at the bottom of the window; to revert to the original Pixelmator Pro toolset, click Revert to Default Set.
