Convert Session Player regions into MIDI or pattern regions in Logic Pro for Mac

In the Logic Pro Session Player Editor, you can edit Session Player regions, but not specific notes. To edit specific notes, you need to use the Piano Roll Editor, the Event List, or Step Sequencer. Before you can do so, you must first convert your Session Player regions into MIDI regions or pattern regions.

After converting a Session Player region into a MIDI or pattern region, you can replace it with a Session Player region at any time. However, any edits you’ve made to the region will be lost.

Note: You can edit Session Player regions in the Tracks area in much the same way that you would edit MIDI regions, with the exception of region overlapping. When overlapping, Session Player regions always use the No Overlap drag mode.

Convert a Session Player region into a regular MIDI region

  • In Logic Pro, Control-click the Session Player region, then choose Convert > Convert to MIDI Region from the shortcut menu.

The resulting MIDI region behaves the same way as any other MIDI region, and you can edit it in the Piano Roll Editor, Event List, or Step Editor.

Convert a Session Player region into a pattern region

You can convert a Session Player region into a pattern region, and then edit it in Step Sequencer. If the Session Player region is longer than four bars, additional pattern regions are created (each with a maximum length of four bars) to equal the length of the converted Session Player region.

  • In Logic Pro, Control-click the Session Player region, then choose Convert > Convert to Pattern Region from the shortcut menu.

The resulting pattern region behaves the same way as any other pattern region, and you can edit it in Step Sequencer.

Replace a regular MIDI or pattern region with a Session Player region

  • In Logic Pro, Control-click the MIDI or pattern region, then choose Convert > Replace with Session Player Region from the shortcut menu.

The resulting Session Player region does not contain any MIDI edits you may have made.
