Choose which chords a Session Player region follows in Logic Pro for Mac

A Session Player region can follow either region chords or the Chord track. By default, when a Session Player region contains region chords, it follows the region chords. When it contains no region chords, it follows the chords on the Chord track. If you delete the chords on a Session Player region, it follows the chords on the Chord track until you add region chords to it again.

You can override the default behavior using menu commands in the Chords menu in the Session Player Editor or using the Pitch Source parameter in the Region inspector. When you set a region that contains region chords to follow the Chord track, its region chords are not deleted. The region chords reappear when you set the region to follow them again.

A Session Player region follows chords from one source (its region chords or the Chord track) for its entire duration. When you want it to sometimes play in sync with other Session Players and sometimes play different chords or extensions, you can paste the chords from the Chord track onto the region and then edit the chords you want to be different.

Set a Session Player region to follow the Chord track

  • In Logic Pro, do one of the following:

    • Control-click the region in the Tracks area, then choose Chords > Follow Global Chord Track from the shortcut menu.

    • Select the region in the Tracks area, then choose Chords > Follow Global Chord Track from the Session Player Editor menu bar.

    • Select the region in the Tracks area, then choose Chord Track from the Pitch Source pop-up menu in the Region inspector.

Note: When you set a Session Player region to follow the Chord track, the Pitch Source parameter changes to Chord Track. Similarly, when you change the Pitch Source parameter to Chord Track, the region follows the Chord track.
