Edit or delete a journal entry on Mac

In the Journal app on Mac, you can edit your entries, modify the entry date, delete or recover entries, and more.

Edit a journal entry

  1. Go to the Journal app on your Mac.

  2. Choose a journal or click All Entries, then scroll to the entry you want to edit.

  3. Click the More button, then choose Edit.

    To add the same entry to multiple journals, click Choose Journals. See Create multiple journals.

Remove or add a title

  1. Go to the Journal app on your Mac.

  2. While composing an entry, choose Entry in the menu bar.

  3. Click Remove Title or Add Title.

Edit the entry date

  1. Go to the Journal app on your Mac.

  2. While composing an entry, click the date.

  3. Click the Entry Date field to edit it.

Delete journal entries

  1. Go to the Journal app on your Mac.

  2. Choose a journal or click All Entries, then scroll to the entry you want to delete.

  3. Click the More button, then choose Delete.

    Deleted entries remain in Recently Deleted for 30 days.

  4. To delete multiple entries, Shift-click to select the entries, then Control-click an entry and choose Delete.

Permanently delete an entry

  1. Go to the Journal app on your Mac.

  2. Choose Recently Deleted in the sidebar.

  3. Click the More button, then choose Delete.

Recover journal entries

You can recover deleted entries from Recently Deleted for up to 30 days.

  1. Go to the Journal app on your Mac.

  2. In the sidebar, choose Recently Deleted.

  3. Click the More button, then choose Recover.

  4. To recover multiple entries, Shift-click to select the entries, then Control-click an entry and choose Recover.
