Turn Communication Safety on or off in Screen Time on Mac

You can have your Mac (or your family member’s Mac) detect sensitive photos and videos before they’re sent or received. This feature is available in Messages, FaceTime, the Photos picker and shared albums in Photos. If nudity is detected, the photo or video is blurred and resources are provided to help handle the situation.

Before you can set up Communication Safety, you need to turn on Screen Time. See Set up Screen Time for yourself or Set up Screen Time for a child.

Note: With macOS Tahoe or later, Communication Safety is also turned on by default when you turn on Screen Time for a child under 18 (age varies by country or region).

Go to the System Settings app on your Mac.
Click Screen Time in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
Open Screen Time settings for me
If you’re a parent/guardian in a Family Sharing group, click the Family Member pop-up menu, then choose a family member.
If you can’t see the Family Member pop-up menu, make sure you’re signed in to your Apple Account and using Family Sharing.
Click Communication Safety, then turn it on or off.
You may need to enter the Screen Time passcode.
Note: When you turn on Communication Safety, the Sensitive Content Warning option is automatically turned on in Privacy & Security settings. You can also turn on Sensitive Content Warning separately. See Avoid seeing unwanted sensitive images and videos.
