Use key labels in Sampler in Logic Pro for Mac

You can add names to keys used by instruments and save these names as a key label set. This is ideal for drum kits.

Key label names are shown in the Logic Pro Piano Roll and Step Sequencer edit windows.

Set key labels for zones and groups

In the Logic Pro Sampler Mapping pane:

  1. To open the Key Labels window, choose Edit > Edit Key Labels.

  2. Click the field in the Label column to the right of the note that you want to add a name to, and enter the new name.

  3. Press Return, or click outside the field to complete text entry.

Save a key label set

  1. In Logic Pro Sampler, choose Save Key Label Set As from the pop-up menu in the Key Labels window.

  2. Enter a name in the Key Label Set Name field, then click Save.

    The key label set name is shown in the pop-up menu in the Key Labels window.

Load a key label set

  • In Logic Pro Sampler, choose the key label set name from the pop-up menu in the Key Labels window.

Delete a key label set

  1. In Logic Pro Sampler, choose the key label set name from the pop-up menu in the Key Labels window.

  2. Choose Delete “key label set name” from the pop-up menu in the Key Labels window.

Use key labels in a MIDI region in Logic Pro

In the Logic Pro Sampler Mapping pane:

  1. To open the Key Labels window, choose Edit > Edit Key Labels.

  2. Click the field in the Label column to the right of the note that you want to add a name to, and enter the new name.

  3. Press Return, or click outside the field to complete text entry.

  4. Open the Piano Roll editor to view the contents of an existing MIDI region used for Sampler. If no region exists, Control-click on the Sampler track then choose Create MIDI Region from the shortcut menu.

    Your edited key label names are shown to the right of the Piano Roll editor keyboard.

Use key labels in a Pattern region in Logic Pro

In the Logic Pro Sampler Mapping pane:

  1. To open the Key Labels window, choose Edit > Edit Key Labels.

  2. Click the field in the Label column to the right of the note that you want to add a name to, and enter the new name.

  3. Press Return, or click outside the field to complete text entry.

  4. Open the Step Sequencer to view the contents of an existing Pattern region used for Sampler. If no region exists, Control-click on the Sampler track then choose Create Pattern Region from the shortcut menu.

    Your edited key label names are shown in Step Sequencer row headers, in place of note names.
