See where a photo was taken using Preview on Mac

If a photo contains GPS information, you can open it in Preview and view the location where it was taken on a world map and a street map.

Open Preview for me

  1. Go to the Preview app on your Mac.

  2. Open a photo, then choose Tools > Show Location Info.

If Show Location Info appears in gray, the image doesn’t contain location information.

  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the GPS section to view the location where the photo was taken (indicated by a pin on a world map).

To view a street map of the photo’s location, click Show in Maps.
