
Change General settings in Music on Mac
In the Music app
on your Mac, use General settings to specify a library name, choose how to show lists, and more.
To change these settings, choose Music > Settings, then click General.
Note: Apple Music and Dolby Atmos aren’t available in all countries or regions. See the Apple Support article Availability of Apple Media Services.
Option | Description |

Sync Library | Access your music library on this computer from all your synced devices. This option is only available if you’re signed in as a subscriber to Apple Music or iTunes Match. |
Automatic Downloads | Automatically download music to this computer from your other devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or another computer):

Download Dolby Atmos | Download immersive, three-dimensional (spatial) audio when available. This option is only available if you’re signed in as a subscriber to Apple Music. |
Always check for available downloads | Automatically check for items you previously purchased from the iTunes Store but didn’t download. |
Use Listening History | Allow the music you play to:
This option is only available if you subscribe to Apple Music and are signed in. |
iTunes Store | Display or hide the iTunes Store in the sidebar. |
Star ratings | Display or hide star ratings for songs. See Rate music in your library. |
Songs list checkboxes | Display or hide checkboxes when viewing items in your library in a list. |
List Size | Choose the text size for items in your library displayed in a list. |
When song changes | Display a notification from Notification Center when a new song begins to play. |
When a CD is inserted | Choose what happens when you insert a CD. See Import songs from CDs. This option is only available if your computer has a CD or DVD drive, or if you have an external drive connected to your computer. |
Automatically retrieve CD track names from Internet | Display song and artist names automatically when you insert an audio CD and are connected to the internet. This option is only available if your computer has a CD or DVD drive, or if you have an external drive connected to your computer. |
