Add or delete a chart in Pages on iPad

You can display your data using 2D, 3D, and interactive charts.

When you create a chart in Pages, you type chart data in the Chart Data editor (not in the chart itself). If you later make changes in the Chart Data editor, the chart updates automatically.

Add a column, bar, line, area, pie, or radar chart

  1. Go to the Pages app on your iPad.

  2. Open a document, then tap the Insert Tables and Charts button in the toolbar.

The Add chart menu showing 2D charts.
  3. Tap 2D Charts or 3D Charts to see the types of charts you can add, then swipe left or right to see more options for each type of chart.

  4. Tap a chart to add it to the page, then drag it to where you want it.

When you add a 3D chart, you see the Rotation control at its center. Drag this control to adjust the chart’s orientation.

If you add a donut chart and want to resize the center hole, tap the Format button, tap Chart, then drag the Inner Radius slider to make the opening larger or smaller. You can also tap the percentage below Inner Radius and enter a new value.

  5. To add data, tap the chart, tap the Forward button, tap Edit Data, then do any of the following:

    • Enter data: Tap placeholder text, then enter your own data.

    • Change whether rows or columns are plotted as a data series: Tap the Configure button in the toolbar, then tap an option.

  6. Tap the Done button.

You can also copy a chart from another document, or from Keynote or Numbers.

Add an interactive chart

An interactive chart presents data in stages so that you can emphasize the relationship between groups of data. Interactive charts can be used to show data such as sales by group over time, expenses by department, and population changes by region per continent. The example below shows the growth of three species during a three-year period.

Three stages of an interactive chart, each showing different data set.

You can interact with the chart using a slider and buttons or buttons only.

  1. Go to the Pages app on your iPad.

  2. Open a document, tap the Insert Tables and Charts button, then tap Interactive.

  3. Tap a chart to add it, then drag it to where you want it on the page.

  4. To add or edit the data, tap the chart, tap Edit Data, then do any of the following:

    • Enter data: Tap placeholder text, then enter your own data.

    • Change whether rows or columns are plotted as a data series: Tap the Configure button in the toolbar, then tap an option.

  5. Tap the Done button.

  6. To change the type of control used for interacting with the chart, tap the chart, tap the Format button, tap Chart, then tap Buttons Only under Interactive Chart.

Delete a chart

You can delete any chart in your document without affecting any table data.

  • Tap the chart, then tap Delete.

Deleting the table data you used to create the chart doesn’t delete the chart; it simply clears the chart of all data.
