Add lines and shapes in Freeform on iPhone

You can add lines and shapes to your boards in the Freeform app .

Add lines, arrows, and curves

  1. Create or open a board, then tap the Add Shape button.

  2. Select a line type. You can find lines in the Basic tab.

  3. With the line selected, tap to show the formatting tools. The options change depending on the type of line. Tap any of the following:

    Tool

    Description

    the Set Stroke button

    Change the line style.

    Note: The color of the line button changes to reflect the current color of the line.

    the Set Line Ends button

    Turn lines into arrows, or add other styles of endings.

    the Set Connection Line button

    Change the connection line style.

    Note: This button appears only for curves and connection lines.

  4. Tap the line to reveal dots. Drag the blue dots to change the size or proportions of the shape, or, for connection lines, to attach an endpoint to another item on the board. On connection lines, drag the green dot to adjust the arc.

Add shapes

The shapes library contains hundreds of shapes in a variety of categories.

  1. Create or open a board, tap the Add Shape button, then choose a shape.

  2. To add text inside a shape, double-tap inside the shape, then enter your text.

    To edit text after adding it, double-tap the shape.

  3. With the shape selected, tap to show the formatting tools, then tap any of the following:

    Tool

    Description

    the Set Fill button

    Change the color.

    Note: The color of the button changes to reflect the current fill color.

    the Set Stroke button

    Change the border.

    Note: The color of the button changes to reflect the current border color.

    the Modify Text button

    Format text.

  4. To change the size and form of an editable shape, tap it to reveal dots. Drag the blue dots to change the size or proportions of the shape. Drag any green dot to change aspects particular to that shape, such as its number of sides.

Put an image into a shape

You can use a shape as a mask or frame for an image. For example, you can put your photo into a circle.

  1. Add a shape, position it over an image, then select both the shape and the image.

  2. Tap the More button, then tap Mask with Shape.

Or drag an image onto a shape to use it as a frame.

Combine shapes

You can create a new shape by combining one shape with another. You can also subtract shapes from other shapes, or remove the overlapping area between two shapes.

  1. Touch and hold one shape and then tap any other shape you want to use.

  2. Tap the Arrange button, then, below Combine Shapes, tap an option to unite, intersect, subtract, or exclude.

Split shapes apart

You can split a compound shape into its parts and then edit each one individually. For example, you can divide the map of the United States (below Places) and change the color of each state.

  1. Add a shape that has more than one part.

  2. Tap the shape to select it, then tap it again to see the formatting tools.

  3. Tap the More button, then tap Break Apart.
