Identify a song using the Shortcuts app on Apple devices

You can use the Shortcuts app on iPhone, iPad, or Mac to add ready-made or custom Shazam app shortcuts to your Apple devices. The Shortcuts app lets you perform multiple tasks across multiple apps—you can, for example, create a shortcut that identifies a song, posts the song and its artwork to Instagram, then shares the song with your favorite music buddy—all with just a tap, click, or Siri request.

Add a music-recognition shortcut to your collection

To use a shortcut to identify a song, first add the shortcut to your collection in the Shortcuts app.

  1. Go to the Shortcuts app , then do one of the following:

    • On iPhone or iPad: Tap Gallery at the bottom of the main Shortcuts screen.

    • On Mac: Click Gallery in the sidebar.

  2. Search for “Shazam,” then do one of the following:

    • On iPhone or iPad: Tap a shortcut, tap Add Shortcut or Set Up Shortcut, then follow any onscreen instructions.

    • On Mac: Click a shortcut, click Add Shortcut, then follow any onscreen instructions.

The shortcut is added to your collection.

Run a shortcut from your collection

After you’ve added a shortcut to your collection in the Shortcuts app, you can run the shortcut to identify a song with just a tap, click, or Siri request.

Do one of the following:

  • On iPhone or iPad: In the Shortcuts app , tap a shortcut.

  • On Mac: In the Shortcuts app , click the Play button on a shortcut.

  • Say “Hey Siri,” then say the name of a shortcut.

Run a shortcut by tapping the back of your iPhone

After you’ve added a shortcut to your collection in the Shortcuts app, you can double-tap or triple-tap the back of iPhone to run the shortcut and identify a song.

  1. On iPhone, go to Settings  > Accessibility > Touch > Back Tap.

  2. Choose Double Tap or Triple Tap, scroll down to Shortcuts, then tap a shortcut.

Note: Only shortcuts added to your collection in the Shortcuts app appear in the list of Back Tap actions.

  3. To run the shortcut, double-tap or triple-tap the back of your iPhone.
