Analyze the chords in an audio or MIDI region with Chord ID in Logic Pro for iPad

Using Chord ID, Logic Pro can analyze the chords in an audio or MIDI region, which also adds the chords to the region. There are several ways to use Chord ID on audio and MIDI regions. After you have analyzed the chords in a region, you can apply the region chords to the Chord track, and also apply the chords in the Chord track to an audio or MIDI region.

Analyze the chords in an audio or MIDI region using drag and drop

  1. In Logic Pro, tap the Global Tracks button above the track headers to open the global tracks (if they are not already visible).

  2. If the Chord track is not visible, show the Chord track.

  3. Drag the region or regions from the Tracks area to the Chord track.

Logic Pro analyzes the region(s), then adds the chords to the Chord track at the region position(s).

When you drag an audio or MIDI region to the Chord track, Logic Pro analyzes the region and adds the chords it contains to the Chord track as a chord group. When you drag multiple regions to the Chord track, the chords are analyzed and a chord group is added to the Chord track for each analyzed region.

Note: If the cycle area is active when you drag a region to the Chord track, only the chords in the part of the region under the cycle area are added to the Chord track.

Analyze the chords in audio or MIDI regions using a menu command

  • In Logic Pro, select the region or regions in the Tracks area, tap one of the selected regions, then choose Chords > Analyze Chords.

Apply region chords to the Chord track

  • In Logic Pro, select the region or regions in the Tracks area, tap one of the selected regions, then choose Chords > Apply Region Chords to Chord Track.

When you select multiple regions and choose Apply Region Chords to Chord Track, the chords are analyzed and a chord group is added to the Chord track for each analyzed region.
