Overview of the Dolby Atmos plug-in in Logic Pro for Mac

The Dolby Atmos plug-in is automatically inserted on the Audio Effect slot of the surround master channel strip when you choose Dolby Atmos from the Spatial Audio pop-up menu in the Audio project settings. The Dolby Atmos plug-in is not available in the plug-in menu. It is the heart of the Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos project, performing the processing necessary for a Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos mix.

The Dolby Atmos plug-in renders the object-based Dolby Atmos mix to channel-based output for monitoring. It only works in 48 kHz or 96 kHz. Logic Pro performs the necessary sample rate conversion in real time if a project is set to a different sample rate.

The Dolby Atmos plug-in window provides the following parameters and controls:

  • Monitoring Format pop-up menu: Lets you select different renderers to monitor the Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos mix using various speaker or binaural formats. See Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos monitoring formats.

  • 3D Object Viewer: A graphical representation of a three-dimensional listening room showing the position of all the objects currently playing in your mix. Signals from the bed tracks are not displayed. See 3D Object Viewer.

  • Bed and objects: A list displays the surround bed channels and all 3D objects used in the project. See Surround bed and 3D objects in the Dolby Atmos plug-in.

  • Binaural render modes: Each object and surround bed channel can be set to a specific binaural render mode applied when playing back with the binaural Dolby Renderer option selected. See Set up binaural render modes.

  • Downmix and trim controls: Various settings and controls let you configure how your Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos mix is rendered when played back on speaker systems that don’t have height speakers or surround speakers. See Downmix and trim controls.

  • Settings pop-up menu: You can save the configuration of the Dolby Atmos plug-in as plug-in presets and recall them later in any Spatial Audio project. Access the related commands from the Settings pop-up menu in the plug-in window header.
