Symbols used in iTunes on PC

When you import music and video, symbols indicate their status. Other symbols are buttons that you can click to do tasks.

Symbol

Description

Display icon

The item is a video.

Document icon

The item is a PDF file.

Exclamation point icon

Next to a song: The song can’t be located; it may have been moved or deleted.

Next to a podcast: Recent episodes haven’t been downloaded because you have multiple unplayed episodes.

Broadcast icon

The song is stored on the internet; when you click the song, it is streamed live to your computer.

Checkmark button

The song will be included in the specified action. For example, only songs with a checkmark are imported when you import a CD.

Speaker icon

The song is playing.

Eject button

Click to eject a CD or disconnect a device.

Unplayed icon

You haven’t begun to play this item.

If this symbol appears next to a TV show season or podcast series, there is at least one episode in the season or series that hasn’t been played.

Partly played icon

You’ve begun to play this item, but haven’t yet played it all the way through.

Arrows at the right of the display window

Click to switch between displays. This symbol appears only if iTunes is performing an action (such as updating Genius or downloading a file) while an item is playing.

Languages button

Click to turn subtitles on or off.

Genius playlist icon

A playlist created by iTunes based on a song.

Smart playlist icon

A playlist you create based on rules you specify.

Music playlist icon

A playlist you create of any songs you choose.

Movies playlist icon

A playlist you create of any movies you choose.

TV Shows playlist icon

A playlist you create of any TV shows you choose.

Podcasts playlist icon

A playlist you create of any podcasts you choose.

Audiobooks playlist icon

A playlist you create of any audiobooks you choose.

iCloud download button

The song is stored in iCloud and available to be downloaded to your computer.

iCloud family download button

The song is stored in iCloud for a family member and available to be downloaded to your computer.

iCloud download ineligible icon

The song isn’t eligible to be uploaded to your iCloud Music Library. For example, the song file might be larger than 200 MB, or encoded at 96 kbps or less.

iCloud duplicate icon

Your iTunes library contains duplicate versions of this song, and only the other version was uploaded to your iCloud Music Library.

iCloud waiting icon

The song is being matched, but the process hasn’t been completed yet.

Not loved button

Click to let Apple Music know that the song, album, or artist is one of your favorites.

Loved button

You’ve chosen the song, album, or artist as a favorite.

Explicit icon

An item contains explicit content (such as lyrics).

Apple TV icon

Apple TV is available using AirPlay.

Speaker icon

The speaker is available using AirPlay.

AirPods icon

AirPods are available.

HomePod icon

HomePod or HomePod mini is available using AirPlay.

HomePod pair icon

On iTunes 12.8 or later, a stereo pair of HomePods or HomePod minis is available using AirPlay.

HomePod/Speaker group icon

On iTunes 12.8 or later, a group with a HomePod or HomePod mini and a speaker is available using AirPlay.

TV icon

The TV is available using AirPlay.

Speaker with lock icon

You need to enter a password to connect to the AirPlay-enabled speaker.

TV with lock icon

You need to enter a password to connect to the AirPlay-enabled TV.

Error icon

The selected AirPlay device has an error.

Error with lock icon

You selected an AirPlay-enabled device but haven’t entered its password.
