Extract vocal and instrumental stems with Stem Splitter in Logic Pro for Mac
With Stem Splitter, you can isolate the different vocal and instrument parts in a multitrack mix and extract them to individual audio regions that you can use in your projects. You can extract stems for vocals, drums, bass, guitar, piano, and other instrumental parts.
Stem Splitter includes a set of presets you can use to quickly extract different combinations of stems. The preset names indicate which stems are extracted separately and which are combined into a submix. You can also create a custom submix containing multiple stems.
Stem Splitter is available on Macs with an M1 or later Apple silicon processor.
Extract stems from an audio region with Stem Splitter
In the Tracks area in Logic Pro, Control-click the audio region, then choose Processing > Stem Splitter.
In the Stem Splitter window, do one of the following:
Click the Preset menu (the currently selected preset), then choose a different preset.
Click the checkboxes for individual stems to select or deselect them. Selected stems are extracted individually. Two or more unselected stems are combined into a submix, which appears at the bottom of the Stem Splitter window.
To extract the submix, select the Submix checkbox. You can also click the More button
for the submix, then deselect individual checkboxes for stems that you don’t want to include in the extracted submix.Click Apply.
A summing stack is created below the track with the selected audio region. The subtracks of the summing stack contain the extracted stems. The original region is muted so that you can listen to the extracted stems immediately. You can solo individual stems using the Solo buttons in the subtrack headers, and you can move, copy, or edit each part in the same way as any audio region.
You can also select an audio region in the Tracks area and apply a preset using a key command without having to open the Stem Splitter window. By default, the preset key commands are unassigned.
