Change Accessibility settings on Mac
Customize your Mac in ways that work best for you with accessibility features for vision, hearing, mobility, and speech.
To change these settings, choose Apple menu 
in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)

Setting | Description |

VoiceOver | Turn VoiceOver (your Mac’s built-in screen reader) on or off, open VoiceOver Utility, or start the interactive VoiceOver training. See VoiceOver settings. |
Zoom | Make content on the screen larger and easier to see by zooming the entire screen or an area of it, or by using Hover Text. If you’re using a second display, set the zoom for it separately. See Zoom settings for accessibility. |
Hover Text | Move the pointer over text you’re reading to view a larger version of it, or display a larger, editable version of text as you type it. See Hover Text settings. |
Display | Make items on the screen (including the pointer) easier to see, make text bigger, reduce onscreen motion, apply color filters or tints to the screen, and more. See Display settings for accessibility. |
Read & Speak | Customize the system voice, use Accessibility Reader to read or listen to text, hear when alerts or apps need your attention, have selected text spoken when you press a designated key, or have items under the pointer—or text that you type—spoken. See Read & Speak settings. |
Audio Descriptions | Hear a description of the visual content in movies, TV programs, and other media, if descriptions are available. See Descriptions settings. |
Hearing Devices | Pair Made for iPhone (MFi) hearing devices to your Mac and adjust their settings. See Hearing Devices settings. Note: Made for iPhone hearing devices can be paired only with select Mac computers with the M1 chip, and all Mac computers with the M2 chip or later. For a list of compatible hearing devices and more information about Mac system requirements, see the Apple Support article List of Made for iPhone hearing devices. |
Audio | Customize audio so it sounds best to your ears—play stereo sound as mono, turn Spatial Audio on or off, boost certain frequencies or soft sounds, and set other accessibility options for your headphones. See Audio settings. |
RTT | Set up your Mac to make and receive Real-Time Text (RTT) calls. See RTT settings. Note: These settings are shown only when you have set up your iPhone and Mac for Wi-Fi calling and RTT phone calls are enabled on your iPhone. Wi-Fi calling and RTT are not available in all countries or regions, or supported by all carriers. |
Captions | Control how subtitles are styled, and whether to use closed captions and SDH instead, when they’re available. See Captions settings. |
Live Captions | Turn Live Captions on or off, and control how captions are styled. See Live Captions settings. Note: Live Captions is available on Mac computers with Apple silicon and is not available in all languages, countries, or regions; see macOS Feature Availability for more information. The accuracy of Live Captions may vary and should not be relied upon in high-risk or emergency situations. |
Name Recognition | Have Mac continuously listen for your name and notify you when it recognizes it. See Recognize your name. Note: Name recognition is available on Mac computers with Apple silicon, and is only available in English. Don’t rely on your Mac to recognize your name in circumstances where you may be harmed or injured, or in high-risk or emergency situations. |
Voice Control | Control your Mac and apps with your voice by speaking standard commands or commands you create. See Voice Control settings. |
Keyboard | Use Full Keyboard Access to navigate UI elements on your Mac using the Tab key and other keys; enter modifiers more easily using Sticky Keys, or prevent accidental keystrokes using Slow Keys; turn on the Accessibility Keyboard as an alternative to a physical keyboard; or use Dwell to control the pointer (if you use eye- or head-tracking technology). Pointer Control | Make your mouse or trackpad easier to use; move the pointer using the keyboard or a numeric keypad; use keyboard keys, assistive switches, or facial expressions to perform certain mouse actions; or move the pointer using head pointer. See Pointer Control settings. |
Switch Control | Turn on and set options for Switch Control so you can use adaptive accessories to navigate and interact with your Mac. See Switch Control settings. |
Live Speech | Turn on Live Speech to have what you type spoken out loud using synthesized speech, add phrases you use often, and more. See Live Speech settings. |
Personal Voice | Use Personal Voice to create a synthesized voice that sounds like you, and use it with Live Speech, in apps, and across your devices. See Personal Voice settings. Note: Personal Voice is available only on Mac computers with Apple silicon and is not available in all languages. Personal Voice can be used only with Live Speech and with third-party apps that you allow, such as Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) apps. You can use Personal Voice only to create a voice that sounds like you on device, using your own voice, and for your own personal, noncommercial use. Vocal Shortcuts | With Vocal Shortcuts, you can teach your Mac to perform an action when you speak a word or another sound of your choosing. See Vocal Shortcuts settings. |
Siri | Type your requests to Siri instead of speaking them. Siri can also listen for atypical speech. See Siri settings for accessibility. Note: “Listen for atypical speech” is only available in U.S. English. |
Shortcut | Select the items to include in the Accessibility Shortcuts panel. See Shortcut settings for accessibility. |
