Learn the meaning of the iPod touch status icons

The icons in the status bar at the top of the screen provide information about iPod touch.

Note: If you turn on a Focus, its icon appears in the status bar. See Turn a Focus on or off on iPod touch.

Status icon

What it means

The Wi-Fi icon.

Wi-Fi  iPod touch is connected to the internet over a Wi-Fi network. See Connect iPod touch to a Wi-Fi network.

The Network activity status icon.

Network activity  Shows that there’s network activity. Some third-party apps may also use this icon to indicate an active process.

The VPN status icon.

VPN  iPod touch is connected to a network using VPN.

The Syncing status icon.

Syncing  iPod touch is syncing with your computer. See Sync iPod touch with your computer.

The airplane mode status icon.

Airplane mode  Airplane mode is on. Nonwireless features are available, but wireless functions may be disabled. See Choose iPod touch settings for travel.

The Personal Hotspot status icon.

Personal Hotspot  iPod touch is connected to the internet through the Personal Hotspot of another device. See Join a Personal Hotspot.

The Navigation Indicator icon.

Navigation Indicator  iPod touch is providing turn-by-turn directions. See Get driving directions in Maps on iPod touch.

The FaceTime Indicator icon.

The Recording Indicator icon.

The Camera In Use icon.

The Microphone In Use icon.

The Lock status icon.

Lock  iPod touch is locked. See Wake and unlock iPod touch.

The Do Not Disturb status icon.

Do Not Disturb  Do Not Disturb is turned on. See Turn a Focus on or off on iPod touch.

The Portrait orientation lock status icon.

Portrait orientation lock  The iPod touch screen is locked in portrait orientation. See Change or lock the screen orientation on iPod touch.

The Location Services status icon.

The Alarm status icon.

The Headphones connected status icon.

Headphones connected  iPod touch is paired with Bluetooth headphones that are turned on and within Bluetooth range. See Set up and listen to Bluetooth headphones.

The Bluetooth battery status icon.

Bluetooth battery  Shows the battery level of a supported paired Bluetooth device. See Set up and use Bluetooth accessories on iPod touch.

The Battery status icon.

The Battery Charging icon.

Battery Charging  Shows the iPod touch battery is charging. See Charge the iPod touch battery.

The AirPlay status icon.

The Voice Control icon.
