Turn off tracks in Logic Pro for Mac
In Logic Pro for Mac, you can turn tracks off in the Tracks area. Turning off a track deactivates all of its plug-ins, freeing up the CPU and memory load they were using. Turning a track on reloads its plug-ins. Either process can take some time, and as a result can’t be automated (unlike muting or unmuting a track).
You can also control dynamic loading of plug-ins on a track using the On/Off button. When you open a project, plug-ins on tracks that are turned off aren’t loaded, even if the tracks contain regions or when the track is focused. When the track is turned on, plug-ins are loaded when the track becomes focused.
Plug-ins load dynamically if the “Only load plug-ins needed for project playback” checkbox is selected in Project Settings > General.
Turn off a track and make plug-ins on the track inactive
In Logic Pro, click the On/Off button
in the track header.If the On/Off button is not visible, you can show it or configure track header components.
Take a track offline but leave plug-ins on the track loaded
In Logic Pro, press and hold Option and click the On/Off button
in the track header.If the On/Off button is not visible, you can show it or configure track header components.
Turning off a track without deactivating its plug-ins can be useful when multiple tracks are assigned to the same channel strip and you want to silence only one of the tracks.
Turn on a track
In Logic Pro, click the On/Off button
again.
When a software instrument track is turned off, all MIDI regions on the track are silenced, but live input (playing) is still audible.
