What is iCloud Backup?

You can use iCloud to automatically back up your iPhone or iPad with iCloud Backup. Your device is backed up over Wi-Fi when it's turned on, locked, and connected to a power source.

iCloud Backup includes information and settings on your device that aren't otherwise stored in iCloud. If you turn on an iCloud feature, that information isn't included in your iCloud backup. See the Apple Support article What does iCloud back up?

If you turn off iCloud Backup for a device, any backups stored in iCloud are kept for 180 days before being deleted.

Set up iCloud Backup

Turn on iCloud Backup in iCloud settings on each iPhone or iPad that you want to back up to iCloud. You can choose which apps and data to back up, and you can also manually back up your device at any time.

Manage your iCloud backups

You can view which devices have iCloud Backup turned on. You can also delete an iCloud backup you no longer need—for example, for a device you no longer have.
