Symbols used in Music on Mac

When you import songs and music videos, symbols indicate their status. Other symbols are buttons that you can click to do tasks.

Symbol

Description

Media unfound icon

The song can’t be located; it may have been moved or deleted.

Broadcast icon

The song is stored on the internet; when you click the song, it’s streamed live to your computer.

Checkmark button

The song will be included in the specified action. For example, only songs with a checkmark are imported when you import a CD.

Speaker icon

The song is playing

Eject button

Click to eject a CD or disconnect a device

the Genius shuffle button

Click to let Music choose a song and then play songs that go well with it.

Genius playlist icon

A playlist created by Music based on a song

Smart playlist icon

A playlist you create based on rules you specify (Smart playlist)

Music playlist icon

A playlist you create of any songs you choose

Download button

The song is available to be downloaded to your computer

iCloud download ineligible icon

The song isn’t eligible to be uploaded to your music library. For example, the song file might be larger than 200 MB, or encoded at 96 kbps or less.

iCloud duplicate icon

Your music library contains duplicate versions of this song, and only the other version was uploaded to your music library

iCloud waiting icon

The song is being matched, but the process hasn’t been completed yet

Not loved button

Click to let Apple Music know that the song, album, or artist is one of your favorites; after you click it, the button turns red

Loved button

The song, album, or artist is marked as a favorite

Disliked button

The song, album, or artist is disliked

Explicit icon

An item contains explicit content (such as lyrics)

Speaker icon

The speaker is available via AirPlay

AirPods icon

AirPods are available

HomePod icon

HomePod is available via AirPlay

HomePod pair icon

A stereo pair of HomePods is available via AirPlay

HomePod/Speaker group icon

A group with a HomePod and a speaker is available via AirPlay

Speaker with lock icon

You need to enter a password to connect to the AirPlay-enabled speaker

Error icon

The selected AirPlay device has an error

Error with lock icon

You’ve selected an AirPlay-enabled device but haven’t entered its password
