Create a workflow using selected files on Mac

If you create a lot of workflows, you can use Keyboard settings to automate the process with a shortcut menu. You can then create workflows from selected files using that shortcut menu.

Add the command to the shortcut menu

  1. Choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Keyboard in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)

    Open Keyboard settings for me

  2. Click Keyboard Shortcuts on the right, then click Services in the column on the left.

  3. On the right, click the arrow next to Development, then select Create Workflow.

Create a workflow from selected files

  1. In the Finder, select the files you want to use in your workflow.

  2. Press and hold the Control key, click one of the selected files to show the shortcut menu, then choose Create Workflow.

A new workflow is created in Automator, and the selected files are specified in the first action.
