Edit project properties in Motion

The Project object in the Layers list must be selected for the project’s Properties Inspector to be displayed. If another object is selected, that object’s properties are displayed in the Properties Inspector.

Edit the properties of an existing project

  1. In Motion, do one of the following:

    • Choose Edit > Project Properties (or press Command-J).

    • Select the Project object at the top of the Layers list, then open the Inspector and click Properties (if that pane is not showing already).

    • Control-click an empty area of the canvas (in the gray area outside the project) and choose Project Properties from the shortcut menu.

      The Properties Inspector opens.

  2. In the Properties Inspector, change any necessary parameters.

    Note: Frame Rate can’t be changed in an existing project.

Change the project background color

  1. In Motion, do one of the following:

    • Choose Edit > Project Properties (or press Command-J).

    • Select the Project object at the top of the Layers list, then open the Inspector and click Properties.

  2. In the Properties Inspector, click Background Color, then select a color.

    Your chosen color appears in the canvas when no other object obscures the background.

Set whether the background color is exported as part of the alpha channel

  1. In Motion, do one of the following:

    • Choose Edit > Project Properties (or press Command-J).

    • Select the Project object at the top of the Layers list, then open the Inspector and click Properties.

  2. In the Properties Inspector, click Background, then choose an option:

    • Don’t render the background as part of the alpha channel: Click Transparent.

    • Render the background as part of the alpha channel: Click Solid.

    • Render the background as part of the alpha channel that interacts with objects in a 3D project: Click Environment.

Note: When you export a project with a premultiplied alpha channel, Motion always renders against black.
