COLUMN

The COLUMN function returns the column number of the column containing a specified cell.

COLUMN(reference)

reference: An optional cell reference to a single table cell or range of cells. The referenced cell(s) can contain any value, or be empty. If reference is omitted, as in =COLUMN(), the function returns the column number of the cell that contains the formula.

Examples

=COLUMN(B7) returns 2, the absolute column number of column B.

=COLUMN() returns the column number of the cell that contains the function.
