Use Image Playground in Motion

From Motion, you can use Image Playground and Apple Intelligence* to quickly create a stylized image based on a description, suggested concepts, or people, pets, and other items from your Photos library. You can then add the image to your Motion project.

Note: Image Playground requires macOS Sequoia 15.2 or later on Mac models with an M1 chip or later. Apple Intelligence is not available in all languages or regions.**

  1. In Motion, do one of the following:

    • Choose File > Import > Image Playground (or press Option-Shift-P).

    • In the toolbar, click the Import button, then choose Image Playground.

      Import button in toolbar

If you don’t see the Image Playground import option, make sure Apple Intelligence is turned on in Apple menu  > System Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri.

  2. In the Image Playground window, do any of the following (in any combination):

    • Create an image from a concept: Click a concept—a suggestion, theme, expression, costume, accessory, or place.

    • Create an image from a description: Click the “Describe an image” field, enter a description, then press Return.

    • Create an image of a person: Click the Person button, then choose a person from your photo library.

    • Create an image based on a photo, such as an image of a pet, nature, or food: Click the Photos button (in the lower-right corner), then choose Choose Photo, Take Photo, or Choose File.

    • Change the image style: Click the Style button, then choose a style, such as Animation or Illustration.

  3. To see variations of an image, click the left and right arrows on either side of the image.

  4. When you’re happy with your image, click Done.

The generated image is added to your Motion project as a 1024 x 1024 HEIC file, which you can use in your project like any other still image. The image is saved in the /Users/username/Movies/Motion Projects/Image Playground Media/ folder in the macOS Finder.

  5. Optional: Save the image to the Motion Library.

Objects you place in the Favorites category are available to every project you create in Motion.

See Create original images with Image Playground in the Mac User Guide.
