Customize your experience during a workout or meditation in Apple Fitness+

In Apple Fitness+, use the playback controls to play or pause a workout or meditation, change onscreen metrics, and more. You can set audio preferences like choosing to focus on either the trainer’s voice or the music during a workout, or turning on audio hints that provide spoken cues to describe what the trainer is doing. You can also change the audio language with dubbed audio and turn on standard captions and subtitles.

Some workouts display the Burn Bar, which shows how your metrics compare to others who’ve done the workout before. The more calories you burn, the higher you land on the Burn Bar. Your position on the Burn Bar is saved in your workout summary along with your other metrics.

If you have an Apple Watch, you can track your heart rate, calories burned, and the Burn Bar—and see all three Activity rings onscreen. If you’re wearing AirPods Pro 3, Powerbeats Pro 2, or a Bluetooth enabled third-party heart rate monitor, you can track your heart rate, calories burned, and the Burn Bar.

Use the playback controls

During a workout or meditation, do one of the following to show the playback controls:

  • On iPhone or iPad: Tap the screen. To hide playback controls, tap the screen again.

  • On Apple TV 4K: Rest your finger on the clickpad or touch surface, or press up on the clickpad ring. To hide playback controls, press the Back button or the Menu button.

Change onscreen metrics

During your workout, you can track your progress onscreen for each of your rings, all shown in real time. You can also change the metrics from Apple Watch that you see on the screen during a workout. Metrics settings sync in the Fitness app on all your Apple devices where you’re signed in to your Apple Account.

Note: Apple Fitness+ subscribers who use AirPlay to see their workouts can get real-time personal metrics from their Apple Watch on compatible displays.

  1. Go to the Fitness app on iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV 4K, then (on iPhone) tap Fitness+.

  2. Start a workout or meditation on iPhone or iPad or Apple TV 4K.

  3. During the workout or meditation, show playback controls, then select the Metrics button.

  4. Do any of the following:

    • Turn off all metrics: Select Show Metrics.

Your metrics are still collected, but they aren’t displayed.

    • Change how time is displayed: Below Time, select Off, Show Time Elapsed, or Show Time Remaining.
