Add an image in Pages on iPad
You can add photos, graphics, and SVG images to any page and replace media placeholders with your own images. You can add images from photo albums on your device, insert them from iCloud, generate them from a text description, or take a photo with your device and add it directly to your document.
You can also add premium images from the Content Hub to your document. Tap 
in the toolbar, tap an object category in the top of the dialog, then tap a premium image to add it to the document. Anyone can use premium Content Hub images, but you need to subscribe to Apple Creator Studio to remove watermarks from them.
Tip: If you have an iPad model with M1 or later, or an iPad mini with A17 Pro, you can use Image Playground with Apple Intelligence* to create fun, original images based on a description and suggested concepts. You can also easily adjust the style and make changes to match text on a page. Select the text or image you want to work with, then tap Add to Playground. You can also tap , tap

Add an image
Go to the Pages app
on your iPad.Open a document, tap
in the toolbar, then tap Choose Photo or Video.To insert an SVG image, or a file from iCloud or another service, tap Choose File.
Navigate to the image, then tap it.
Drag any blue dot to resize the image.
If you can’t replace an image on a page, the image may be locked or grouped, or it may be a section layout object.
You can also copy an image from another document or application.
Replace an image
Go to the Pages app
on your iPad.Open a document with an image, then tap the image to select it.
Tap
, tap Image, tap Replace, then choose an option.
Generate an image from a text description
If you subscribe to Apple Creator Studio, you can use Image Generation to create a custom, high-resolution image from a text description.
This feature requires an Apple Intelligence-capable device, and is not available in all countries and regions. To learn more, see About Apple Creator Studio.
Go to the Pages app
on your iPad.Open a document, then tap
in the toolbar.Note: If this is your first time using Image Generation in Pages, follow the onscreen instructions to share your age range with the app. Image Generation is not available for all ages, so a parent or guardian must enable this feature for children and teens in their family group. To learn more, see the Apple Support article How to set up Family Sharing on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
Select the style, view, and aspect of the image you want to create in the Generate an Image window.
Type or paste a text description for the image you want to generate in the text field, then tap
.An image based on your text description and selections is generated.
Note: If you are asked to send data, select Allow Once or Always Allow.
To edit the image, use the controls at the bottom of the screen or type in the text field, then tap
.To start over, tap
.Do one of the following:
Save the image: Tap
, then choose where you want to save the image.Add the image to the document: Tap the Insert button.
Important: Image Generation is subject to usage limitations. To check your usage status, tap 
, tap Intelligence Features, then tap Show Usage Status.
Create a media placeholder
You can add a media placeholder (to which you can add an image, video, or audio file) to a document. Using a media placeholder lets you easily replace media without disturbing other elements on the page.
Go to the Pages app
on your iPad.Open a document, then add an image to a page.
Tap the image to select it, tap
, tap Image, then tap Set as Placeholder.You can format the image to match the way you want the document's images to look. For example, you can add a mask or border, rotate the image, or change its size.
Replace a media placeholder with an image
Go to the Pages app
on your iPad.Open a document with a media placeholder.
Tap
in the bottom-right corner of a media placeholder, then choose an option.Drag any blue dot to resize the image.
Take a photo in Pages and add it to a document
You can take a photo with the camera on your device and insert the image directly into your document.
Go to the Pages app
on your iPad.Open a document, then do one of the following on the page where you want to add a photo:
Tap
in the bottom-right corner of a media placeholder, then tap Take Photo or Video.Tap
in the toolbar, then tap Take Photo or Video.
To take the photo, tap Photo, tap
, then do one of the following:Insert the photo: Tap Use Photo.
Take the photo again: Tap Retake.
Cancel and return to the document: Tap Retake, then tap Cancel.
Drag any blue dot to resize the image.
You can edit the photo as you would any other image. The photo appears in the Photos app on your device.
Add an image description
You can add a description to any image in your document. Image descriptions are read by assistive technology (for example, VoiceOver) when someone uses that technology to access your document. Image descriptions aren’t visible anywhere in your document.
Go to the Pages app
on your iPad.Open a document, tap an image to select it, tap
, then tap Image.Tap Description, then tap in the text box and enter your text.
If you export your document as a PDF, image descriptions are still readable by assistive technology. See Convert to Word, PDF, or another file format.

To work with multiple images at the same time, touch and hold one image, then tap the other images with another finger.
