Overview of keyboard shortcuts in Logic Pro for iPad

You can perform various functions in Logic Pro for iPad using an external computer keyboard with your iPad. Keyboard shortcuts may consist of either a single alphanumeric key or an alphanumeric key and one or more modifier keys (Fn, Shift, Control, Option, and Command).

Keyboard shortcuts are listed next to their corresponding menu commands, similar to Logic Pro for Mac. On the iPad, however, the main menus are hidden by default, and you have to make them visible by swiping down from the top of the iPad screen. They disappear when you tap anywhere outside the menus.

Note: This functionality is only available when you’ve selected Windows Apps or Stage Manager in the Multitasking & Gestures page of your iPad Settings.

Tip: With the Universal Control feature in macOS, you can use the keyboard and trackpad on your desktop or laptop computer to control Logic Pro on your iPad. Move your mouse pointer against the edge of your computer screen, and it appears on your iPad screen.

The keyboard shortcuts show the symbols for the corresponding modifier keys.

Key focus

Once Logic Pro for iPad detects an external keyboard, it shows a gray frame around an area or view. This indicates that the area has key focus and is the target for the keyboard shortcut. You can move the key focus to a different view by pressing Command-Tab. The following are the views in Logic Pro that can have key focus.

  • Tracks area

  • Live Loops

  • Piano Roll Editor

  • Audio Editor

  • Session Player

  • Step Sequencer

  • Mixer

  • Plug-ins area

  • Browser

  • Numeric input dialog

  • Project Browser

Although many keyboard shortcuts work the same in those views, some (especially the various edit commands) are specific to a particular view.

Search for a keyboard shortcut

  1. In Logic Pro for iPad, swipe down from the top of the screen to reveal the menu bar.

    Make sure you have Windows Apps or Stage Manager selected in the Multitasking & Gestures page of your iPad Settings.

  2. Tap the Help menu to open the search field .

  3. Start typing the first few letters of the shortcut’s name. As you type, the matching menu commands are listed with their corresponding keyboard shortcut.

  4. Tap a command in the list to activate it or tap outside to close the search field.

  5. Tap the background in Logic Pro to hide the menu bar.
