Flash the iPad screen or indicator light for notifications

On an iPad with an indicator light, you can set the LED Flash, screen, or both to blink when you receive a notification. This can be useful if you can’t hear the sounds that announce incoming calls or other alerts, or if you might miss audible alerts in a noisy environment.

The indicator light is the light-emitting diode (LED) located on the back of iPad, next to the camera lens.

Note: Flash for Alerts is available for iPad Pro (9.7-inch), iPad Pro (10.5-inch), iPad Pro 12.9-inch (2nd generation) and later, iPad Pro 11-inch (all models), and iPad mini (6th generation).

  1. Go to the Settings app on your iPad.

  2. Tap Accessibility, tap Audio & Visual, tap Flash for Alerts, then turn on Flash for Alerts.

  3. Select any of the following:

    • LED Flash: The indicator light on the back of the iPad flashes.

    • Screen: The iPad screen flashes.

    • Both: Both the iPad indicator light and the iPad screen flash.

  4. Turn any of the following on or off:

    • Flash While Unlocked: The indicator light flashes even when iPad is unlocked.

    • Flash in Silent Mode: The indicator light flashes even when iPad is in Silent mode.
