Work with Voice Memos in Logic Pro for iPad

You can share a song from Logic Pro for iPad to the Voice Memos app on any Apple device that uses your Apple Account. This allows you to quickly share a mix of your song, and listen to it on other devices. Using layered Voice Memos recordings, you can also record your vocals or instrument over the song without the need for headphones.

You can import standard Voice Memos recordings and layered Voice Memos recordings (QuickTime Audio files) into your Logic Pro project. When you import a layered Voice Memos recording, Logic Pro creates an audio track for each layer of the recording. Share songs to Voice Memos

  1. In Logic Pro for iPad, do one of the following:

    • Tap the Projects button  in the top-left corner of the screen, and then tap Export.

    • Tap the Export button  in the control bar.

      Note: If the Export button is not visible in the control bar, you can add it by customizing the control bar. See Change the controls in the control bar.

  2. Enter a name for the export file in the Name field.

  3. In the File Type section, choose Compressed.

  4. Use the Entire Project Length switch to choose whether to export the entire project or part of the project.

    To limit the export file to only a part of the project, turn off Entire Project Length, then adjust the values in the Start Position and End Position fields. You can tap the fields and then edit the values in the numeric input dialog.

    Note: If Cycle mode is on when you tap the Projects button and then Export, the part of the project enclosed by the cycle area determines the start and end positions.

  5. Tap Processing Details to show and set additional options. See Set the processing details when exporting projects.

  6. Tap Export, and then wait for the project to export.

    Note: The Export option is dimmed if you don’t have enough storage space on your iPad.

    A progress bar indicates the progress of the export.

  7. In the list of export and sharing destinations that appears, tap the Voice Memos icon, and then tap Save.

The export file is now available in Voice Memos.

Create multiple audio tracks with a layered Voice Memos recording

  1. Using Windowed Apps on your iPad, open Logic Pro and Voice Memos side by side. See Turn Windowed Apps on or off on your iPad.

  2. In the Voice Memos app, locate the layered Voice Memos recording in the list of recordings.

  3. Drag the layered Voice Memos recording to an empty space in the Logic Pro Tracks area.

  4. In the dialog, choose the option “Create new tracks,” and then tap OK.

    Logic Pro creates two new audio tracks with two audio regions, representing the two embedded tracks of the layered recording.
