Cutoff mode in Logic Pro for iPad

Using Cutoff mode in Beat Breaker, you can set the filter type, cutoff frequency, slope, and curve for each slice.

The cutoff determines where frequencies are reduced. In lowpass (LP) mode, lowering the cutoff removes high frequencies and makes the sound darker, while raising it restores brightness. In highpass (HP) mode, lowering the cutoff keeps more low end, while raising it removes bass and makes the sound thinner.

Slope controls how steeply the cutoff frequency ramps up or down over the duration of the slice. A higher value shifts the frequency more quickly from its start point to end point; a lower value produces a more gradual change. Curve adjusts the shape of that ramp, controlling whether the frequency change accelerates, decelerates, or moves at a constant rate across the slice. The cutoff point also determines the frequency that Resonance mode emphasizes on a slice. Use both modes together for more expressive filter shaping.

  • Tap the Cutoff button to select Cutoff mode.

Cutoff mode parameters

  • Filter Type: Select the filter type for the selected slice. LP (lowpass) reduces high frequencies; HP (highpass) reduces low frequencies.

  • Cutoff: Adjust the filter cutoff for the selected slice. Lower values result in a darker sound, while higher values produce a brighter sound.

  • Slope: Set the steepness of the cutoff frequency ramp across the selected slice. Higher values produce a faster change; lower values a more gradual one.

  • Curve: Adjust the curve of the filter cutoff ramp over time for the selected slice.

Tip: To build a rising filter sweep across a pattern, apply LP mode to each slice and increase the Cutoff value progressively from left to right. The filter opens gradually across the pattern, creating tension that resolves when the loop repeats.

Set the Filter Type parameter

  • Tap a slice, then tap HP for highpass or LP for lowpass.

Set the Cutoff parameter

  • Drag a slice, then drag up or down to adjust the Cutoff value.

Set the Slope parameter

  • Drag the slice to the left or right to adjust the Slope value.

Set the Curve parameter

  • Place two fingers on the slice, then turn your hand in the direction you want to rotate the curve. After you start the rotation, you can continue by dragging with a single finger.

Tip: When a slice is selected, you can also drag the Curve parameter to adjust the value. This is useful if the slice is too narrow to use a gesture.
