Record MIDI plug-in output in Logic Pro for Mac

Record MIDI to Track Here lets you record the output of MIDI effects to a MIDI region on a track. For example, instead of just recording the notes you play to trigger the effects, Record MIDI to Track Here lets you record their real-time processed output, allowing precise editing of the resulting notes and controller data.

Add Record MIDI to Track Here

To capture the output of plug-ins, add Record MIDI to Track Here to the slot after the last MIDI plug-in you want to record. Any other plug-ins after the Record MIDI to Track Here slot will not be included in the recording.

To record the output of MIDI effect plug-ins, do the following:

  1. Insert the MIDI plug-ins you want to record.

  2. Click the arrows near the right edge of the last MIDI plug-in in the chain that you want to record.

  3. Choose Record MIDI to Track Here from the MIDI plug-ins pop-up menu.

  4. Record your sequence to a MIDI region.

Note: Record MIDI to Track Here will appear as two small yellow triangles in the MIDI Effect slot, directly below the plug-in where it was inserted.
