Control surfaces supported by Logic Pro
Control surfaces can be supported either with a control surface plug-in or with a MIDI Device Profile (MDP), which is a type of Lua script. Directly supported control surfaces communicate with Logic Pro via special plug-in files located in the /Contents/PlugIns/MIDI Device Plug-ins subfolder of the Logic Pro application bundle. To view the bundle contents, Control-click the Logic Pro application in the Finder, and choose Show Package Contents from the shortcut menu. Logic Pro also checks for control surface plug-ins installed in the ~/Library/Application Support/MIDI Device Plug-ins and ~/Library/Application Support/MIDI Device Plug-ins folders. MDPs are located in /Contents/Frameworks/MACore.frameworks/Resources/MIDI Device Scripts.
When new control surface plug-ins are supplied directly by the device manufacturer, place them in the folders described above or as advised in the documentation supplied with the plug-in.
Note: Many supported devices provide an emulation mode for the Mackie Control Universal (MCU) or HUI protocol. In essence, Logic Pro recognizes the device as an MCU or HUI. In some cases, the device may automatically switch to DAW controller mode or you may need to manually switch it to MCU or HUI mode. See the manufacturer’s support materials for details on use of emulated control with your controller.
Important: All macOS computers support built-in control surface plug-ins and MIDI Device Profiles (MDPs). macOS computers with Intel processors also support control surface plug-ins from manufacturers other than Apple. To use a control surface with an Apple Silicon computer for which no built-in plug-in is available, consult the manufacturer’s support materials for the control surface to see if an MDP is available.
MDPs are located in subfolders by the manufacturer name in the ~/Music/Audio Music Apps/MIDI Device Scripts folder. Logic Pro shows the MDP in the Install window, and it also appears in the Setup window as a generic keyboard icon. You replace that generic icon with a custom device icon.

Important: For macOS computers with Intel processors, some devices are supported by both a Lua script and a control surface plug-in. In this situation, the plug-in always has precedence. When you install a plug-in from a manufacturer other than Apple, any existing assignments of a corresponding Lua script for the device are automatically replaced with assignments generated by the control surface plug-in.
