The 2010 Labour Party leadership election began on 10 May 2010 after incumbent leader Gordon Brown resigned as Leader of the Labour Party in the 2010 general election.[1] The National Executive Committee decided the timetable for the election.[2][3]
On 25 September 2010, Ed Miliband became the new Leader of the Labour Party, beating his older brother, David Miliband.[4]

On 9 June John McDonnell withdrew from the race[12] to support Diane Abbott.[13]
