Chargers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt coached the Cardinals for the last six years, giving him insight into the abilities of any veteran members of the team that were cut loose as Arizona went to 53 players.
It stands to reason, then, that Whisenhunt’s opinion probably helped linebacker Reggie Walker earn a job with the Chargers. Adam Caplan of ESPN reports that Walker has agreed to a contract with San Diego.
Given the fact that the majority of Walker’s work came on special teams with Arizona, it probably doesn’t hurt that Chargers special teams coach Kevin Spencer also made the trip from the desert to San Diego this offseason. The Chargers kept Donald Butler, Manti Te’o, D.J. Smith, Bront Bird and Andrew Gachkar on their initial 53-man roster.
Walker had 50 tackles in 48 games for the Cardinals over the last four years.
