Possible cow spawning bug in Java release 1.0[]

I wanted to start a world in 1.0 and have it be a long-running world for me, however, there is one problem... I can't find any cows. o.o' Cows are an important thing in every survival world, but my world has... none. I have pins of pigs, sheep, and chickens, but I have yet to find a single cow in my world. I live on the border of a desert and a forest biome by a river. Across the desert is a swamp, and to the north, along the biome border, is a mountain biome/extreme hills. I have searched all the biomes around me and have found tons of sheep, probably an abnormal amount. I went in the nether and dug for a good distance, popped up in the overworld at 738, 213, and still no cows. I have walked hundreds of blocks around in the extreme hills biome I popped up in, and still the same result: zero cows and hundreds of sheep. Other animals spawn like pigs and chickens and wolves even, but no cows. I have to wonder if this is some sort of bug in 1.0, that cows don't spawn, but after searching awhile, I haven't been able to find anything about a cow spawning bug. I'm thinking that I should probably upgrade to 1.1 or something and hope that causes cows to show up. If not, I guess I'm out of luck.107.77.196.216 16:42, 4 July 2022 (UTC)

You really don't need them, hunger didn't exist back then, if you're talking about beta. If you're not just kill sheep and other animals for food. Jjs (talk)jjs30000

I said "release 1.0". There is hunger in 1.0, but I needed them for leather. However, I ended up finding a stronghold and taking the bookshelves to get books. I still can't make item frames, though, but they aren't too important. --107.77.200.153 01:29, 23 July 2022 (UTC)

Cows (and pigs/sheep) no longer follow across deep water[]

Since Java 1.19.2 or 1.19.3, cows (and pigs and sheep) no longer follow players with wheat in their hands across deep water (2 blocks). They try, but they stall a couple of blocks from shore. Sometimes they spin in place.

Can someone else verify this effect before I note it as a bug on the page? Also, is there a better page on which to make such a note? SirDaddicus (talk) 13:57, 24 January 2023 (UTC)
