Hello!

For 3 months(!) since (beginning at 17 Feb, 2026, or 2026-02-17) my account has been "restricted" because of some trade controls. I have attempted to file a support ticket but have received absolutely no response - complete silence.

I am a resident of Vienna, Austria, and hold an Austrian residence permit. It could happen that I accessed Russian websites (and by accident github too) using a Russian VPN as a ton of .ru domains just doesn't allow anything other than a RU region - e.g. Moscow state services, Russian Post and many many others.

I have in fact provided a scan of my residence permit - no answer, no anything. The screenshot below - two support tickets, the first one from Feb, 17 - NO answer.

I do NOT know where to ask, nor do I know how to actually contact GitHub support and not wait another three months.

Thanks.

Since this is tied to trade controls, I’d be careful about assuming the exact reason unless GitHub tells you. A VPN from a restricted region could definitely make the account look risky to an automated system, but only GitHub support/compliance can confirm what triggered it.

The cleanest thing is probably to keep all updates inside the oldest ticket and avoid opening more duplicates. I’d reply with a very short summary: current country, proof of residence in Austria, that the Russian VPN use was temporary, and that you are not located in a restricted region. Attach the residence permit again if the ticket allows it.

Also worth checking that your GitHub profile, billing country, and email/account details don’t conflict with the Austria documents. Anything inconsistent can slow this kind of review down.
