ah the classic "error getting location" wall. super common. good on you for checking the main windows location setting, but that's usually not the problem. 9 times out of 10, it's something with your browser or network. first thing to check: are you using a VPN? if you are, turn it off completely. a vpn's whole job is to hide your real location, so the github application freaks out and fails. this is the most common reason. second thing: your browser itself needs to give permission. when the site asks to share your location, a little popup should appear in the top-left corner of your browser window. if you accidentally clicked "Block" once, it will never ask again. you have to click the little lock icon in the address bar next to the github URL, find the "Location" setting, and change it to "Allow". also, browser extensions can cause this. stuff like ad blockers or privacy guards sometimes block location requests. try doing the application in an Incognito or Private window. if it works there, you know it's one of your extensions. if none of that works, it might be your wifi network, especially if you're on a campus or school network. their firewalls can be weird. try connecting your computer to your phone's mobile hotspot and do the application over your phone's data connection. honestly, the easiest thing might be to just do the whole application on your phone from the start. log into github on your phone's browser and go through the steps. phone GPS is usually way more reliable for this kind of verification and bypasses all the pc/wifi issues. |

Make sure to enable geolocation on both your OS and browser, as you need to share your location to submit the application and don't use a VPN. Next, submit the application using another device, such as a smartphone or another PC (I recommend using a phone). If you don't have another device, log out and log back into GitHub in incognito mode. If none of the above works, I recommend you contact support by opening a ticket here, select " |

Hi everyone,
I'm not being able to complete the sign up for the benefits because in the popup screen everything works fine until the "share location", it always shows "Error getting location. Try again?".
I have location sharing enabled in windows as well as the desktop access thingy.
What can i do?
Also sorry for the bad english, it's not my main language.
Here's the prints of the location settings and the error: (I've censored my university and e-mail for obvious reasons)
Translations for the settings > 1st box: "Location services, on" || 2nd box: "Allow applications to acces your tasks, on" || 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th and 8th box are off || 9th box: "Allow desktop applications to access your location, on"

Update: I am able to share location now... I'M LITERALLY INSIDE CLASS RN and the goddam thing says I'm away and doesn't accept the form.
I tried in the school wifi, in mobile data, on PC, on mobile, I LITERALLY SENT A PICTURE OF THE ME IN THE CLASS LOL.
I'm not using a VPN, I have GPS activated, the browser gets even the area I am in other sites, I don't use extension on mobile and if also doesn't work on mobile,
What do I do???
