Hello GitHub Support Team,

Until yesterday, I could select models in GitHub Copilot Chat via the "Pick Model" dropdown in VS Code Insiders. However, as of this morning, the dropdown has disappeared, and I can no longer choose any model.

My environment details:

  • VS Code Insiders Version: 1.103.0-insider (Universal)
  • OS: macOS (Darwin arm64 24.5.0)
  • Copilot and Copilot Chat extensions are updated to the latest version.

I have tried:

  • Signing out and back into GitHub
  • Reinstalling both the Copilot and Copilot Chat extensions
  • Enabling experimental features in settings.json

Could you please check if there is an issue with my account or if the model picker has been temporarily disabled?

Thank you.

Hey! Yeah, looks like GitHub recently removed the model picker from Copilot Chat in the latest VS Code Insiders update. I had it too until yesterday, but now it’s gone for me as well.

You’ve already tried all the usual steps, so it’s probably not just you. Might be a temporary change or a backend update. I’d suggest keeping an eye on the changelog or switching to the stable VS Code version if it’s blocking your workflow.

The current problem of not finding the model still exists, should this be solved like this?

Switching Copilot extension to release version fixed the issue for me in the mean time.

I lost the feature now too. And Copilot now just keeps showing the loading indication whenever I ask it a question. It's not answering anything.

Hello, I've had exactly the same thing since yesterday (August 25, 2025). I'm using VS Code "normal," version 1.103.
I can no longer select a template, even though I paid for Github Copilot.

I tried installing an older version of Copilot / Copilot-chat as described above, but it doesn't work.

Do I have to wait for a newer version?

Thank you very much!

Answer:
Yeah this is a known hiccup after the latest VS Code update (1.103).
The model selector basically broke because the Copilot extensions weren’t fully in sync with the new VS Code build.

✅ What usually fixes it:

  1. Update both GitHub Copilot and GitHub Copilot Chat to the latest version (≥ 1.350.0).

    • VS Code → Extensions → Check for updates.
  2. If you still can’t pick models, uninstall + reinstall both extensions.

  3. Restart VS Code completely (sometimes you even need to kill background processes).

💡 If you’ve already tried downgrading: don’t. The issue is on the extension side, not your plan. GitHub usually pushes a patch pretty quick after these VS Code version bumps.

So for now → stay on the latest Copilot/Copilot Chat, and if it still doesn’t work, it’s just a matter of waiting for the next patch drop.

Same issue for some of us too. The network and firewall team in our company has compared some f our profiles and have advised this is because they have policies in place to restrict certain model. So they have asked me to get a request raised to be added in a specific group where I should not see this issue anymore. Will keep posted if it works

I'm now getting this issue with none of the above working. This was after the upgrade that was pushed this morning.

Same issue for me. It just says "working" and that's all This goes beyond the "new feature" or "insider feature" as Copilot is just broken now

I'm having the same issue. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the extensions, they're set to auto-update so it can't be that, heck, I even uninstalled and redownloaded VS Code as a whole! Nothing worked.

Have an update on my side - was the org blocked 'generative AI' - I think copilot's basically made it clear what it is doing now rather than just DNS etc. which is probably why we're experiencing same issues.
