Jobs gain higher priority the longer they wait, which prevents indefinite postponement. The jobs that have spent a long time waiting compete against those estimated to have short run times. Shortest Job First scheduling works on the process with the shortest burst time or duration first.
This is the best approach to minimize waiting time.
This is used in Batch Systems.

Non Pre-emptive
Pre-emptive
