I'm running the extension on a clean version of Windows, when I tried to select kernel for the first time, the extension said I needed to download windows. I followed the link and installed Python from the Windows Store. After reloading vs code the version of Python in the kernel selector is invalid. It showed 3.11.undefined.
After rebooting my computer the version number displays correctly
