Unclear UX for Linked Filters with Multiple Fields #73702

Describe the bug

Dashboard linked filters show as linked in the sidebar even when a newly wired field has no FK path to the other filtered fields; saving yields a broken link with no error or explanation.

Users can add a third card and connect an existing “linked” filter to an incompatible field. The UI still displays the filter as linked, but after save the linkage fails silently, so filtering stops working with zero feedback about invalid/incompatible mapping.

To Reproduce

  1. Add some questions to a dashboard based on tables that have a defined fkey relationship
  2. Add two filters to a dashboard that can be linked; link them
  3. Confirm they work
  4. Now add a third question and link one of the filters to a field that has ne fkey relationship with the first two
  5. Note that in the side panel the filter still appears to be linked
  6. Save the change and note the linked filter doesn't work and the user is given no feedback at all regarding why

Expected behavior

Unclear - but users never understand what's actually happening in this case.
