I realize the intention here is to get a symbol instead of a slightly uglier

, but LaTeX only accepts a number for the footnote mark. There might be ways to get a symbol with an external package, but I'm not sure how to trigger their usage for a single footnote and get that all translated through Sphinx. This is the simpler option.I think this should fix the build of the PDF.
